And the Spring 2012 Performance is…Coppélia
October.27.2011
Helena recently announced this year’s Spring Performance! SDA has performed Coppélia in the past, with wonderful costumes, choreography and beautiful set design.
Coppélia is a sentimental comic ballet with original choreography by Arthur Saint-Léon. The ballet premiered on 25 May 1870 at the Théâtre Impérial de l´Opéra, with the 16-year-old Giuseppina Bozzacchi as the principal role of Swanhilde.
The story of Coppélia concerns a mysterious and faintly diabolical inventor, Doctor Coppélius[1] who has made a life-size dancing doll. It is so lifelike that Frantz, a village swain, is infatuated with it, and sets aside his true heart’s desire, Swanhilde, who in Act II shows him his folly by dressing as the doll and pretending to come to life. The festive wedding-day divertissements in the village square that occupy Act III are often deleted in modern danced versions, though one of the entrées was the first czardas presented on a ballet stage.
We are very excited to produce our own version of Coppélia here at SDA. Please look for cast lists closer to Christmas time! For any questions, please leave a comment below!

Have you noticed a few new faces around the studio?
Meet Amia & Danielle!
Danielle
Amia
Amia is our new Hip Hop teacher who grew up training in Montpelier with Lorraine Neal, and after studying in New York, she has returned to Vermont. Danielle is originally from Rochester, NY where she began her training with many different styles. After traveling around, teaching and choreographing, Danielle has moved to Vermont. We are very happy to add these two great teachers to our staff.

Some old Articles
August.5.2011
The Stowe Reporter has written a few nice articles on SDA...this one features myself and Hannah Zuckswert. We graduated high school at the same time, in Stowe and Morrisville. Hannah and I danced together since we were 4 years old and grew to really know each other. When my mom (Helena) got sick during my senior year of high school, I was asked to cover a large majority of SDA classes, as well as the annual production of “The Nutcracker,” which Hannah and I ran together! It was a great learning experience and one that I will forever cherish! Check out the article from The Stowe Reporter below…
